Our story took root in Canada’s far north, working with and inspired by communities facing some of the world’s toughest growing conditions in Zone 0. Our hope wasn’t just to grow gardens in the Arctic, but to empower local communities, reclaim food sovereignty, and redefine what's possible.
Five years ago, Arctic Acres set out to redefine the way we live and grow. Our vision took root while working with far-north communities, searching for innovative tools and techniques to reliably garden in one of the most difficult growing environments on earth: Zone 0 in the Canadian Arctic.
When you have everything you could ever grow and more in local grocery store produce section, why bother gardening? Despite our modern society’s incredible abundance, growing and gardening at home has been on a consistent rise each year across North America and in other nations around the globe, even amongst younger age groups.
“Sustainability” is an industry buzzword, but it essentially means to endure or exist at a minimal cost, whether that cost is financial, environmental, or even psychological. Living a sustainable and self-reliant lifestyle is not about moving backwards to a less industrialized or convenient time, it’s about utilizing the incredible technology and knowledge society has amassed to find new solutions using the oldest of methods.

Our team at Arctic Acres has been hard at work since we first publicly launched in March of 2020. Just in time for Canada Day, we have reached an exciting new milestone! - There is officially a Growing Dome in every Canadian province and territory! And we’re seeing more of our ‘made in Ontario’ greenhouses pop up every month.
As both we and our incredible customers continue to grow, we will be expanding our research and development initiatives, online customer resources, inspirational content, corporate and community partnerships, and more. We are excited and honoured to be part of Canada’s bright sustainable future.
1. CARSON’S GARDEN + MARKET DOME VISITS
If you’re in Prince Edward County or southern Ontario, consider a visit out to Carson’s Garden + Market where you can explore a Growing Dome up close and personal. Carson’s is a beautiful facility great for shopping, enjoying fresh delicious food, and educational events, courses, and classes.
2. MY SELF RELIANCE GREENHOUSE UPDATE
To discover more of how these amazing dome greenhouse structures are assembled, even in the wilderness - check out ‘My Self Reliance’. We had the honour and opportunity to work with Shawn James on this greenhouse, and it’s been a delight to see how well this project has developed. He’s done quick work creating a beautiful rustic interior, planting crops, and demonstrating exceptional craftsmanship and skill in his exceptional ongoing YouTube video series.
3. GREEN IGLU’S GROWING IMPACT
If you’re not yet familiar with Green Iglu, they are registered charity that works directly with Canadian communities to help strengthen food sovereignty, promote local growing, and working to develop sustainable and integral systems for a lasting impact. This includes new partnerships in Lax Kw’alaaams, Gesgapegiag, and Kinngait which will be utilizing Arctic Acres Growing Domes and systems.
